Felting is the special needlework technique which is widely known is Russia as «to felt wool».

The history of felting began in ancientry. It is believed that human discovered the woolen property to felt near 6 thousand years BC, and the first wool felting workshops were opened in XVI century. At that time the technique of making felt became known not only to the eastern nomadic tribes, but to west and north regions where woolen products were in demand because of the harsh climate.

Felting is used for making clothes, warm shoes, jewelries, toys and objects of interior. Felt is universal material: it is both flexible and durable, can transform, allows to experiment with shapes, volumes and texture. Is attracts many contemporary artists, for example, Jo Neil, Moira West, Andrea Graham, because it allows to play with tactile and visual perceptions.
